Neva Masquerade

Overview

The Neva Masquerade is the color-point variant of the Siberian cat, named after the Neva River flowing through Saint Petersburg, Russia. The “masquerade” refers to the dark mask on their face. Some registries consider them a separate breed, while others classify them as a Siberian color variety. They share all characteristics with the Siberian except for their pointed coloring.

Appearance

Neva Masquerades are large, powerful cats with a dense, triple-layer coat in color-point patterns. They have bright blue eyes, a broad head, and a substantial, muscular body. Their points can be seal, blue, red, cream, or tortie. They have the same impressive size and coat density as the standard Siberian.

Personality

These are gentle, playful cats with an affectionate, easygoing disposition. They are social and enjoy family life, getting along well with children and other pets. They are moderately active and enjoy interactive play and climbing.

Health Considerations

Neva Masquerades share the Siberian’s general health, which is excellent. They may be prone to hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. Like standard Siberians, they are sometimes reported to produce fewer allergens, though this varies between individuals.

Care and Grooming

Their dense triple coat needs regular brushing two to three times per week, more during heavy shedding seasons. They are surprisingly low-maintenance for their coat length.
