Overview

The Lykoi (Greek for “wolf”) was developed from a natural mutation first identified in feral cat colonies in the United States around 2010. Breeders Johnny and Brittney Gobble established the breed from unrelated cats carrying the same mutation. The breed was recognized by TICA in 2017. Their werewolf-like appearance has made them increasingly popular.

Appearance

Lykoi are medium-sized cats with a partially hairless coat that creates a roan pattern, with a mix of hair and bare skin. They typically lack hair around the eyes, nose, muzzle, and ears, creating a wolf-like face. Their coat can molt completely and regrow. They have a lean, muscular build and bright, large eyes.

Personality

Lykoi are active, outgoing cats with strong prey drive and hunting instincts. They are loyal to their families and can be wary of strangers initially. They are intelligent, playful, and enjoy interactive games. Their personality is often described as dog-like.

Health Considerations

As a newer breed, long-term health data is limited. Their unusual coat may make them more sensitive to cold and sunlight. Dermatological monitoring is recommended. No significant breed-specific conditions have been identified yet.

Care and Grooming

Their unique coat requires gentle care. They may need occasional bathing when they molt. Protect them from sun exposure and extreme temperatures. Their sparse coat provides limited insulation.
